Children of the Corn

We were an unusual little group; the 50yr. old student, an artist, a cat, the retiree, pretty boy, the actor and a carpenter. All off to go play in a field in the dark in late October on a rather balmy night though still bundled in our mitts and scarves. We promptly split into three smaller groups and head into the thicket that is the Chilliwack Corn Maze. It's so dark and quiet, that pretty boy begins to talk of scary movies in corn fields to freak us girls out...

Stomp, stomp, stomp through the packed ground, here we go! Follow the flashlight, don't fall behind...you'll get lost! Find the markers, figure out the questions and follow the clues...that's simple, if you do that you're fine...Oh! Unless YOU make a mistake, take a wrong turn or plain get mixed up. Then back, back, back you go. To find out what you did wrong and try again! We laugh and giggle, get mixed up and confused again and again. Back track and retrace our steps, what?! Again? Wait...I think I've seen this cornstalk before...

Needless to say my group came in last(I am a slow walker.) Though, it probably didn't help our time that we got lost several occasions...But we had a blast. Then to top it off we all got to go and pick out a pumpkin from the patch. As we headed into the pumpkin patch with flashlights in hand and the night all around us one child of the corn remarked, "It's like the Great Pumpkin."

You should have come!

It was soooo much fun! But really, really cold. Until you got heated from all the back-tracking you did. And, don't worry Mish, you'll come next year.
